THE GOLD RUSH 1925
Charlie Chaplin often said The Gold Rush was the film for which he most wanted to be remembered.
If you have the chance to see the original 1925 silent version of this film I highly recommend it (the one that has the tramp and Georgia kiss at the end), it also has the original score Charlie did for the revival he released in 1942 (with him narrating).

Charlie & Edna Purviance in a staged photograph, he did these type of staged shots very often, this is from “Shoulder Arms” he plays an American Soldier and Edna a French Peasant woman.
I have to say I love the eye make-up ;)

The little tramp is often associated with walking down a lonely road, with the screen irisis out.
While he would very often run down the road away from the camera usually trying to avoid being caught the whimsical ones or the ones that are the most iconic:
He did in only 3 of his 84 short and feature films.

The tramp mesmerized by the beauty of the flower girl. This photo always reminds me of the balcony scene between Romeo and Juliet.

I can’t quite put into words what my heart does when I watch this film. I didn’t think I’d actually be able to pick a favorite Chaplin movie because they’re all so wonderful, but this is without a doubt my top favorite. There are so many endearing scenes to me in this film, it’s simply flawless. The look of profound love he gives the blind flower girl throughout the film. The sacrifices he makes to insure the girl’s happiness, like being pummeled in a boxing match or taking the degrading job of cleaning up after animals, and finally going to prison. And of course the final scene when the blind girl can see and is finally able to look upon the face of the man who is the reason for her happiness. Not a millionaire, but our dear Little Tramp. ♡
